View 1996 › or Start at 1989“What sparked it off was that I’d moved from a different ISP that had a flat-rate, dial-up account at $60 a month and with that was some web-hosting space. I thought, “Ok, I’ll do something with it”. I had some friends that had websites but literally just, ‘This is my website, this is a bit about me, send me an email’. So I thought, “I could do at least that”. So I sat down, taught myself basic HTML, figured out how to make Web pages, how to link, how to put images in. Then I wrote a few things – one of them was a manifesto on what my website would not include – links to friends’ websites, put them up... and offended someone within an hour so that was really awesome!”
